To recreate a built environment, I used Gustave Doré's image of the New Zealander. The original etching is the man looking out at the fall of the capital, contemplating
The glory that was Greece - The grandeur that was Rome
He can be seen looking up at the colorful sky rather than the downfall of the city. One can choose to dwell upon the negative of the advancement of modern society or one can choose to see the positive.

The etching in the background is taken from the Divine Comedy, below it would be the lines:
In the midway of this mortal life, I found me in a gloomy wood, astray.
Starting with the concept of feeling astray both in the existential sense and the physical sense, I placed a woman in awe as the center. She looks as if she’s lost in wonder looking out over the fields of flowers.

The figure in this is taken from a depiction of a passage in the bible:
Learn where is wisdom, where is strength, where is understanding; that thou mayest know also where is length of days, and life, where is the light of the eyes, and peace
The figure is reading seen reading with a cat nearby, in a room full of chaos. Here, he finds his quiet.
